Meet the team

Our team of Ministers are:

Rev Tim Voltzenlogel

Image:

Tim is Vicar of Church Langley, and is the Church of England Minister for Church Langley Church.

Tim was a solicitor in private practice until 1997 when he felt the call to serve God full-time. He trained at Wycliffe Hall in Oxford, and was ordained in 2000. He was an assistant minister in Eastbourne for four years before coming to Church Langley as Vicar in 2004.

He is becoming known for his mad-cap school assemblies and family services - breaking eggs over children’s heads and unravelling miles of toilet rolls – all, so he claims, to explain the good news of Jesus in a way that everyone will understand and remember.

Tim enjoys playing tennis, walking, going to the theatre, and is a woodwork and DIY enthusiast. He will usually be part way through creating something – if usually with more enthusiasm than skill! He is seen here piloting a yacht off the Sussex coast – “Sadly”, he says “it’s not mine”.

Tim’s greatest desire is to see more and more of the people of Church Langley discover the reality of Jesus for themselves.

In the past I have been: a civil servant (4 weeks); fork lift driver (1 year) Gynaecological Nurse at PAH for 11 years and a District Nurse before going to London Bible College in 1998 to get my theology degree. After that I returned to PSBC (Potter St Baptist Church) to minister to my church family there.

I am also part of the Hospital chaplaincy team and I feel that all my previous work experience adds to what I can give in this environment.

Rev'd Andrew Hollins (Methodist/URC)

Image: Revd Andrew Hollins

Andrew is a Methodist Minister. Andrew says: I studied Medical Microbiology and worked in NHS pathology labs and for Severn Trent Water before training for ordained ministry at The Queens College, Birmingham. In 1996, whilst a  probationer minister in Oxfordshire, I was ordained at the Methodist Conference. In 1999 I moved to Hoddesdon and am currently minister of Hoddesdon and Hertford Methodist Churches, and also involved ecumenically at CLC and also at Christ Church, Waltham Cross. Since HAEBEA (Herts and Essex Border Ecumenical Area) was formed in 2006 I have been its Area Chair.

Most of my family are still in South Derbyshire, where I grew up. On 23rd April 2009 I became an uncle, following the safe arrival of baby Evie Alana. It is good, living just a mile or so from the spectacular kingfishers at Rye Meads nature
reserve – very relaxing (not that ministry is ever stressful!)

I’ve enjoyed my involvement here since Sept 2007 as the United Reformed Church (URC)minister. This is possible because Church Langley Church belongs to the Herts and Essex Border Ecumenical Area (HAEBEA)in which the Methodist Church, URC and other denominations work closely together. I am looking forward to continuing my involvement until I move on to pastures new in autumn 2010.

Mr Vic Brown (Baptist Lay Pastor)

Image:

Vic writes: "I was born in Potter Street in 1942 and am married to Beryl. We have 2 adult children and 2 teenage grandchildren.

I worked for the Ford Motor Company for 30 years on new engine projects in Germany, Spain, Wales and England as a Chartered Engineer in a multi-disciplined team and often found commuting to Cologne easier than going Dagenham!

As a teenager I played football for Harlow Town and was a founder member of Potter Street Baptist Church Football Club. That sporting
activity took its toll and in 1997 I had both hips replaced. Without excellent surgery and care I would not be mobile today.

I became a Christian in 1958 and was baptised at Potter St. Baptist Church 50 years ago. I served as deacon before moving to Church Langley Church in 1994, where I became an Elder and then Baptist Lay Pastor. I enjoy working with other Christians and believe that a caring loving church can help us see that life is far more than just the things we possess!"
